RONATO Alcano earned millions playing billiards and squandered them in no time.
Now, he’d realized his folly and vowed to regain the fame, glory and money showered upon him as a former world champ in both the 9-ball (2006) and 8-ball (2007) editions.
Shrugging off his shyness, Alcano approached his former benefactor, Perry Mariano, and asked for another crack at the pro international circuit.
Knowing Alcano’s inherent skills, Mariano acceded and took the pride of Calamba, Laguna, back into the fold of Bugsy Promotions.
Alcano, who’s also known as boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s billiards partner and trainer, was rusty at the start. He was getting beat by lesser lights at King of Sports bar along Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.
After three weeks of intensive practice, spending six hours at the pool table each session, Alcano was able to recover his deft touch.
Mariano saw that he is ready and arranged Alcano’s comeback event.
Alcano, will be testing his mettle in the China Open set Oct. 10 to 16 in Beijing before joining fellow Bugsy stalwart Dennis Orcollo in the United States pro circuit. Roy Luarca
