IÑIGO Anton overcame fierce competition and a rain-drenched track to post his second successive victory in the Asian Karting Open Championships at Carmona Race Track in Cavite recently.

Anton, the ace Castrol-Yokohama karter who ruled the kickoff leg of the continental series in Macau, made sure he bagged the Asian Cade title of the Philippine leg in a machine prepared by Kart Plaza-Works Bell.

Anton’s countryman Joaquin Garrido finished second with Austrian Constantin Reisch settling for third spot.

Constantly setting the pace in the preliminary races, Anton seized pole position for the final heat.

He quickly pulled away from Garrido, Reisch, Khristine Yokohama of Japan and his Chis Edgesport-Mark Young Racing teammate Maveric Corpuz when the final heat was fired off.

Yokoyama and Corpuz later tangled, forcing the latter to quit the race with a broken bumper.

“After we won Macau in June, I knew it would be hard to win again,” said Anton. “So I really prepared for this with coach Edgen (Dy-liacco).”

With the back-to-back victories, Anton now totes a commanding lead in the Asian championship going into the third leg in November in Thailand.

“Inigo’s practice sessions with [champion karter] Flynn Jackes also made the difference,” Carlos Anton, Iñigo’s multititled racing champion dad said.

Anton is backed by Auto Shack, JSD autosport, Special Stage, View Park Hotel, MohSpeed and Kilton.
