Nemo Ascue, a cheerdance fan since 2009, all dressed up for this year’s Cheerdance Competition.
If there’s one event Nemo Ascue is looking forward to every UAAP season, it’s definitely the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
The 22-year-old made sure he would stand out in the crowd of thousands at the Mall of Asia Arena, wearing feathers all over his shirt and on his head gear.
But he would have to split his energy as he would be cheering for two teams – the UP Pep Squad and the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe.
“I’ve been watching the cheerdance competitons since 2009 when I was still in UST,” said Ascue, who was in Espana from kinder to first year college before transferring to UP Diliman.
Ascue, who now taking up a master’s degree, is ecstatic to be a part of this much-awaited gathering featuring special performances from all eight schools.
“Nobody beats the harmony and school spirit. Whenever the teams go to the mat and perform, it’s one community cheering for one goal,” he said. “It’s fun because when they perform, you know that they’re not just dancing for a team but with the school community too. It really heightens the school spirit.”
Ascue admits he is an ardent follower of the two squads, and has even seen the dry run of UST’s routine.
However, he is excusing himself from making a fearless forecast for today’s festivities.
“I’ve seen and heard some tidbits, but I wouldn’t really forecast anything this early. I believe it’s going to be a good show today for both squads.”
