Fans during the last FIVB World Women’s Club
The Philippines is bidding to host the World Women’s Club championships which is set to be held in October 2016.
Philippine Superliga president Ramon “Tats” Suzara said the country is ready to stage the meet which will pit eight top clubs in the world including the Philippines as host team.
He said the hosting could cost P55 million, which was way lower compared to the 2013 Fiba-Asia hosting which reportedly cost P77 million.
Fédération Internationale de Volleyball executive council member Stav Jacobi, who is in charge of studying the hosting bids, said the body gives “the Philippines a good chance of hosting the World Women’s Club Championships.”
Suzara and Jacobi were set to make an ocular on possible venue the Mall of Asia Arena and billeting areas like the Solaire and Sofitel late Friday.
Aside from the Philippines, Turkey is making a bid as the FIVB is inclined to hold the World Women’s Clubs in Asia.
All the top volleyball players in the world are expected to see action in the World Clubs. The PSL, the first professional club league in the country, is hoping to pit the core of the back-to-back Petron team along with six imports.
In studying the hosting, Jacobi said they consider a lot of things including venues, billeting, organizational skill and television coverage.
“These countries (bidding to host) prepare bids in years in advance. For 2016 we give the Pilippines a good chance of hosting the World Women’s Club Championships,” he said.
Jacobi graced the presser of the PSL Grand Prix straight from the airport.
