Ateneo puts its focus back on its UAAP campaign as the university affirmed Friday that Bo Perasol remains as head coach of the Blue Eagles in men’s basketball.
Ateneo president Fr. Jose Villarin, SJ, noted the “full support” of the school and team management for Perasol, who came under fire after Ateneo’s loss to rival La Salle last Sunday.
“From external and internal feedback … we have noted and learned from our mistakes,” Villarin said in a memo addressed to the Ateneo community. “I know that we will continue to improve in the second round.”
The Eagles ended the first round tied in third place at 4-3, yet Perasol got the flak for the team’s late meltdown in their losses to University of Santo Tomas and La Salle.
Perasol, who took over a team that came from a five-year title reign in 2013, noted the team’s learnings from the first round:
“Everything that happened, those are revelations. It unveiled who we are—that you can do this, but you have to do more.”
