Gonzaga-led Army blasts Kia in V-League

It was a performance worthy of a salute as Philippine Army trampled Kia, 25-15, 25-18, 25-11, Sunday to start its campaign in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference at San Juan Arena.

Royse Tubino gave the Lady Troopers the 24-11 match point with a timely block on Shiela Pineda before the Forte missed an important reception to seal the victory for Philippine Army.

Philippine Army head coach Kung Fu Reyes said his team is still looking for its timing after a long break.

“It’s a slow start, we still have jobs inside the military and we took some time off after our win at the AFP-PNP Games,” Reyes said.

He added the team only had two weeks of training to prepare for the V-League.

Jovelyn Gonzaga led the Lady Troopers with 12 points while Nene Bautista added 10.

Alexa Micek led Kia with 10 points but her team compounded its woes by giving away 30 points due to errors.
