Japanese bet bags singles title; doubles top seeds score

Sixth seed Ochi Makoto of Japan took the scalp of another higher-ranked foe to clinch the singles title while the top-seeded pair of Enrique Lopez-Perez of Spain and Harry Bourchier of Australia ruled the doubles Sunday in the PSC-Philta International Men’s Futures Open at Valle Verde Country Club in Pasig.

Makoto breezed past his third-seeded compatriot Kento Takeuchi, 6-2, 6-1, to top the $15,000 ITF tournament. Lopez-Perez and Bourchier drubbed Japan’s Issei Okamura and Kento Takeuchi, 6-4, 6-3, to make up for their stunning defeats in singles.

Makoto downed No. 2 Bourchier of Australia, 6-2, 6-1, in the semifinals.

Takeuchi shocked the top seeded Lopez-Perez in the semifinals, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, after booting out Jeson Patrombon in the second round, 7-5, 7-5.
