Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have announced his retirement, but WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin believes there’s still left in the Money man.
As per BoxingScene.com, Golovkin said he wants to take a shot against Mayweather and sees the American fighting once more after his last fight against Andre Berto proved to be a dud.
“Floyd, he’s not finished,” the 33-0 Golovkin said. “He’s not finished. He’s a good businessman, he’s a very smart guy. He has [a] a plan [for his] future.”
Mayweather has been on the top of the pound-for-pound rankings for most of his prime, only getting knocked off the apex when Manny Pacquiao went on rampage in the 2000s and early 2010s.
A fight against Mayweather could rake in huge sums for any fighter, the biggest pay day to date was Pacquiao’s approximately $80 million in fight purse alone.
Golovkin said a fight against Mayweather is a “big chance.”
“This is boxing, a very short sport life.”
