Cignal duo: No more five-setters, please

For a tandem that seems to thrive in marathon matches, American imports Arielle Usher and Amanda Anderson swear they don’t want yet another five-setter.

The pair was instrumental in Cignal’s back-to-back victories that both went the distance, something that speaks a lot about their perfect fit in the HD Spikers’ system.

“No, hopefully not another five-setter, it’s getting too exhausting,” said Anderson, who watched the games with Usher last Thursday, even though Cignal had a rest day.

The HD Spikers take on the embattled Meralco Power Spikers at 1 p.m. today hoping to protect a clean record in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix women’s volleyball at Cuneta Astrodome.

“All the imports are good and there is good balance among all the teams,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar. “But we have Arielle and Amanda who clicked with the team right away.”

Unfortunately for the Power Spikers, chemistry is something they are still working on as import Christina Alessi saw action sparingly in the past two games unlike fellow import Liis Kullerkann. Meralco has lost all its three games so far.

The Power Spikers can also rely on the veterans Cha Cruz and Stephanie Mercado and the core of the La Salle Lady Spikers led by Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo.

Petron, which bowed to Cignal in the inaugurals, will try to seize its second win when it faces Philips Gold at 3 p.m.
