Donnie Nietes successfully defended his WBO junior flyweight crown for the eighth straight time after a 12-round domination of Mexican challenger Juan Alejo Sunday (Manila time) at StubHub Center in Carson, California.
The 33-year-old Nietes was in complete control right from the opening bell, earning a unanimous decision victory with the two judges scoring it 119-109 and the other at 120-108.
Nietes, whose record now stands at 37-1-4 with 21 knockouts, also snapped Alejo’s 21-fight winning run.
Nietes has been a world champion since 2007 and has yet to lose a fight since dropping a split decision to an unheralded Indonesian Angky Angkota in 2004.
