Far Eastern University may be at the top of the standings but its star forward Mac Belo is far from satisfied.
The Tamaraws, along with fellow league-leader University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, are just a win away from securing a Final Four berth but Belo is not going to take any chances.
“We still have a lot to work on,” said Belo, who was named ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week after leading FEU to a share of the top spot with an 8-1 card.
Belo keyed in a fourth-quarter run to repel University of the Philippines, 68-57, last week that extended FEU’s winning streak to seven games.
The 6-foot-4 Belo scored nine of his 12 points during a telling 18-2 charge that turned a one-point edge to a commanding 63-46 buffer with under four minutes left.
Belo has been his team’s most consistent player this season averaging 13.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. But despite his impressive numbers, he is determined to further elevate his game knowing that FEU’s bid to win the title only gets tougher as the season goes along.
“The other teams are adjusting so we also have to adjust,” said Belo, who topped Ateneo’s Kiefer Ravena and UST’s Kevin Ferrer for the weekly honors given by sports scribes from national dailies and online.
