Alabang ends Highlands’ WGAP reign
ALABANG flaunted its might in Class A and watched rival Tagaytay Highlands falter in two other divisions to snare the 2015 Champion Infinity WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines) Circuit overall crown at Sta. Elena Golf Club recently.
Marilyn Reyes fired 40 Stableford points while Eun Sil Jang, Jocelyn Garcia and Rita Horan backed her up with 38, 35 and 33, respectively, as Alabang pooled a 146 and edged Orchard by two and Camp Aguinaldo by five to notch their fourth victory in the premier class of the annual event.
The win worth three points gave Alabang a 26-point total after eight legs, ending Tagaytay’s three-year reign after the Highlanders settled for 25 points with a runner-up finish in Class C and a third place effort in Class B.
Article continues after this advertisementHost Sta. Elena, five points behind after the penultimate leg at Tagaytay, flashed its familiarity with the par-72 layout and topped Classes B and C for a 24-point aggregate.
Forest Hills ended up third in Class C while Camp Aguinaldo placed third in Class A as they pooled 20 and 15 points, respectively, to take the two other slots in the WGAP Cup, which gathers the top five teams after the eight-leg circuit, set next month.
Orchard, led by individual champion Abigail Lapid’s 44 points, placed second to Alabang in Class A in the final leg with a 144. Aguinaldo took third place with a 141 while Sta. Elena, with Junko Naruse firing 39 points, topped Class B with a 150, nipping Canlubang by one and Tagaytay, led by individual winner Mely Leyeza’s 42 points, by eight.
