Mapua rookie center Allwell Oraeme was officially named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Season 91 on Friday.

Oraeme, a huge factor in the Cardinals’ return to the Final Four this season, is only the third player in the league’s history since Gabby Espinas and Sam Ekwe to bag the MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same year.

The 19-year-old Nigerian garnered 69.67 in Player All-around Value, well ahead of San Beda’s Art Dela Cruz (60.61) in the MVP derby and Perpetual Help’s Bright Akhuetie (52.88) in the the rookie race.

For his tremendous effort on the defensive end, Oraeme was also recognized as the Best defensive player of the season.

He had a 244 defensive rebounds, 13 steals and 53 blocked shots in all 18 games.

Along with Oraeme, Dela Cruz, Akhuetie, last year’s MVP Scottie Thompson, and Arellano University’s Jiovanni Jalalon were named members of the Mythical Five.

San Sebastian’s Michael Calisaan, meanwhile, came away with the Most Improved Player distinction.
