Spikers’ Turf: Air Force rips Navy in 3 sets
Flashing its attacking depth, Air Force made quick work of Navy, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18, Sunday night to move closer to a semifinal berth in Spikers’ Turf Season 1 Reinforced Conference at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Rodolfo Labrador spearheaded the charge, finishing with 14 points, including 12 kills as the Airmen dominated the Sailors for their third straight win in the six-team tournament.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Airmen clicked offensively right from the onset, coming away with 44 attack points while holding Navy to just 27 in the match that lasted a little over an hour.
With the loss, Navy fell to third spot with a 1-1 record.
The Sailors got some encouragement by posting nine points off blocks. But Navy struggled to match the depth of the Airmen as Ruben Inaudito contributed 10 hits and Jeffry Malabanan and Nino Jeruz each scattered seven points.
Article continues after this advertisementNavy drew strength from Nur Amin Madsari, who delivered 15 hits, but the Sailors couldn’t muster enough production from the rest of the squad to overcome Air Force. Razzel Palisoc was the next best Navy scorer with seven hits while Jayson Sapida and Edgardo Rusit added five points each.
The Airmen, who earlier beat Cignal and Instituto Estetico Manila, also moved within a victory of the single round-robin semifinals.
Jessie Lopez also came up with a solid performance in setting up the Air Force attack with 16 excellent sets.
