Brandon “The Truth” Vera can claim the first-ever ONE Championship’s heavyweight belt in front of his hometown fans.
Filipino-American fighter is set to face against Brit Chi Lewis Parry for the outfit’s inaugural heavyweight championship on December 11 at Mall of Asia Arena.
“I’m happy to be back,” Vera (13-7-1) said Wednesday during the fight’s presser at City of Dreams Manila. “When I come home to the Philippines…this, this is home.”
Standing at 6’9″, Parry is one of the biggest heavyweights in the sport but Vera said the 6-0 Brit will be no match for his speed.
“He’s so slow, when he throws his jab I can count to two before it hits,” Vera said. “He’s big and powerful…if he hits me.”
Filipinos also figure in the undercard with bantamweight Mark Striegl (14-1) going up against undefeated Aussie Jordan Lucas (8-0).
Former boxing champion Ana Julaton (2-1) goes up Russian kickboxer Irina Mazepa (1-0) in the women’s super bantamweight champion.
Ruel Catalan (2-6) looks to bounce back after two straight losses and go up against Brazilian grappler Alex Silva (2-1).
