AFP completes sweep

Armed Forces of the Philippines trounced Office of the Ombudsman, 107-94, to complete a five-game sweep of the first round of eliminations in the 4th UNTV Cup Thursday at Ynares Pasig.

The AFP Cavaliers trailed in the first two quarters but grabbed the upperhand in the third frame, 76-70, behind the outside sniping of former PBA player Boyet Bautista and Winston Sergio.

The 5-foot-6 Bautista then almost singlehandedly finished off the Graftbusters by scoring 10 more points as AFP continued to pace Group B.

For the fourth straight time, Bautista topscored for the Cavaliers with 34 points while Sergio logged 26 points.

AFP’s victory negated the conference-high 43 points of Ombudsman’s Bernzon Franco, 13 of which were scored in the first quarter when they led, 22-17.
In Group A, Malacañang demolished Department of Justice, 72-59, while National Housing Authority downed Government Service Insurance System, 89-75. Both winners are tied at 3-2.
