LVPI conducts volleyball training for coaches

In hopes of improving the overall quality of volleyball nationwide, the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) conducted a Level 2 coaching course held at Arellano University in Pasay.

The 15-day seminar, attented collegiate and commercial league coaches, was conducted by course director Shanwen Zhao of China and instructor Razieh Seifzadeh of Iran, both sent by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

“It really benefited coaches in the grassroots level, and maybe the commercial leagues,” said Cayco on Tuesday at the weekly PSA Forum at Shakey’s Malate.

Ramon Malinao, the head of the referees and coaches commission, also that a lot of innovations were introduced in the course, which was centered on improving the Philippine volleyball’s technical side which, to some, is a decade delayed.

“Taking it from the participants, the common impression is there were lots of new things taught,” he said.

With these programs laid out, Cayco is wishing that the country could soon contend with the bests of Southeast Asia.

“We’re currently fifth or sixth in the region. Our target is to get to number three, and eventually, take number one. We’re still lagging, but hopefully, we’ll get there,” he said.
