‘Stupid’ play a result of being ‘too aggressive,’ says Varilla

University of the East guard Paul Varilla saw a wide open lane to the basket and he took advantage of it with an easy layup.

The only problem was Varilla scored on the wrong basket and he ended up giving University of Santo Tomas’ the first two points of the game.

“It was a boneheaded play,” Varilla said. “From the start my mind was just ‘be aggressive, be aggressive.’ I think I was too aggressive.”

Varilla’s two points were also given to Kevin Ferrer as the team captain of UST.

The embarrassing play happened right after the opening tip between Growling Tigers’ Karim Abdul and Red Warriors’ Chris Javier.
