Triple in dying seconds lifts UP over Letran in Filoil Flying V

MANILA, Philippines – Trailing by two in the dying seconds, the University of the Philippines turned to its pocket-sized guard, who responded with a big time basket.

Barely five-foot-five, Mike Gamboa nailed a triple with 33.1 ticks left to lift UP over Letran, 65-63, in the 2011 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premiere Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

Mike Silungan led the Fighting Maroons in scoring with 13 points on top of seven rebounds and four assists.

In the first game, Mapua turned back College of St. Benilde, 82-75, behind an all-around performance from Allan Mangahas.

The crafty Mangahas piled up the statistics sheet with 15 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists.

UP trailed by three at the end of the third after leading, 38-31, at the half.
