PBA: Pringle’s clutch heroics lift GlobalPort past Rain or Shine
Stanley Pringle saved the day for GlobalPort.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year delivered in the clutch, scoring on a daredevil drive to lift the Batang Pier to a pulsating 113-111 victory over erstwhile unbeaten Rain or Shine Friday in the 2016 Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup at Philsports Arena.
Article continues after this advertisementPringle went against three defenders and drained the tough game-winning lay-up with 0.5 seconds to spare. He finished with 27 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
“Binigay ko talaga sa kanya,” said coach Pido Jarencio of the game-clinching play. “Exceptional lang talaga si Stanley kasi consistent sya since the start of the season.”
(I really gave it to him. He’s really exception because he’s been consistent since the start of the season.)
Article continues after this advertisementGlobalPort squandered a 102-91 lead in the final six minutes, as Rain or Shine rampaged back in the game behind the efforts of Jericho Cruz and Jeff Chan.
Beau Belga tied the game at the charity stripe at 111 with 14.6 seconds to go, but Pringle took over in the final play and dealt the Elasto Painters their first defeat this conference.
“The desire to win is there. The players really want to win,” said Jarencio.
Terrence Romeo, who suffered cut above his left eye, also had 25 points, five boards, and three assists while Keith Jensen went 5-of-8 from threes to end up with 21 markers.
Belga led Rain or Shine with 23 points and five rebounds, as the Elasto Painters fell to a four-way tie with GlobalPort, San Miguel, and Alaska at first place with identical 3-1 records.
Chan had 17 markers, as Cruz finished with 15 in the defeat.
