Philippine Army ended the eliminations of the Shakey’s V-League unscathed after dropping University of the Philippines, 23-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-23, Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Jovelyn Gonzaga rushed in from the backline for the Lady Troopers’ final point in tumultuous fourth set for the veteran squad. They close the elims with 5-0 card.
Lady Troopers head coach Kung Fu Reyes was not too pleased with the performance of his team especially in the fourth set when UP stayed with them in the waning moments.

“I told them, ‘if that is how you play, let’s just play at the fifth set,'” Reyes said. “There were moments where UP would score three, four points while we can only manage one.”

UP got as close as 24-23 when rookie Maria Molde spiked one in before Gonzaga’s winner.

Honey Tubino led the Lady Troopers with 28 points with Gonzaga adding 17 and Nerissa Bautista pitching in 10.

Molde led the third-seeded UP, which has a 2-3 record, with 15 points while fellow rookie Justine Dorog added 12.
