Cannonball rolls off Clark Jan. 8

The Cannonball 1000, a novel motorsports event featuring cars and motorcycles traversing 1,200 kilometers of Northern Luzon routes in 24 hours, kicks off at Oxford Hotel and Casino in Clark, Pampanga, on Jan. 8.

Event organizer Joey Almeda, a six-time endurance champion, said Cannonball 1000 is open to  cars and motorcycles 301 cc and above.

Among those expected to compete is acting Makati Mayor Romulo Peña, a longtime enthusiast of two wheels, who will be riding his Triumph motorcycle.

Cannonball 1000 is being backed  by Joey Guillermo of Flying V; Chua Peng Chai, representing Brunei Riders; Fil Oil; Petron; BMW; KTM; Aprilia; Moto Guzzi; TVS; Peugeot; Jeep; Mahindra and Ropali.

Underbones and scooters pegged at 300cc below will fall under a class of their own, the Cannonball 500, which will be tracing a similar but more compact route of 500 km under a 12-hour time limit.

The Cannonball 2015’s last staging saw a parade of super cars such as Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar, Aston Martin, BMW and Porsche, together with Mazda, Chrysler, Morgan, Peugeot, Mahindra and motorcycles KTM, BMW, Ducati, MV Agusta Husqvarna, Honda, Suzuki, Vespa and TVS.
