Cignal seeks Spikers’ Turf finals against Home Ultera Sunday

Cignal seeks a repeat of its straight-set win over PLDT Home Ultera in the semifinals as it guns for the first finals berth in the Spikers’ Turf Season 1 Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan City Sunday.

The HD Spikers finished tied for first with Air Force at 4-1 at the close of the single round eliminations but settled for the No. 2 seeding after the tiebreak for a Final Four clash with No. 3 Home Ultera, which ended up with a 3-2 slate.

Cignal and Home Ultera face off at 1 p.m. with the HD Spikers enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage.

Air Force, meanwhile, will meet the winner of the Navy-Instituto Estetico Manila, which are disputing the last semifinals seat at presstime.

The Airmen also need to win once to advance to the best-of-three finals of the season-ending conference of the pioneering men’s volley league presented by PLDT Home Ultera and backed by Mikasa.

Cignal swept Home Ultera, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, in their  duel on Oct. 11 but the Ultra Fast Hitters will be seeking payback  to stay in the hunt for the championship.

Lorenzo Capate Jr. and Edmar Bonono will spearhead Cignal’s bid for a repeat while Ultera will pin its hopes on league’s leading scorer Mark Alfafara, James Peca-A, Peter Torres and Ron Galang to force a decider.

Games are aired on weekdays on PTV 4 starting at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:15 p.m., according to the organizing Sports Vision.
