Cignal ousts PLDT to enter Spikers’ Turf Finals
Cignal took care of its semifinal matchup against PLDT Home Ultera, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 11-25, 15-8, in the Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference Sunday at San Juan Arena.
A single win was all the second-seeded HD Spikers needed to get to enter the Finals and they made sure they would nail it despite hobbling into a fifth set and the momentum swinging into the favor of the Ultra Fast Hitters.
Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar said the semifinal win is just another task hurdled and a bigger picture lies ahead.
“It’s great and we proved our worth because the coaching staff and especially the players have worked hard for this,” Acaylar said. “But of course we have to double this.”
Air Force is the top-seeded team in the tournament and Navy snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday to enter the Final Four.
Lorenzo Capate top scored for Cignal, which had four players score in double figures, with 26 points while Herschel Ramos, Edmar Bonono, and Alexis Faytaren had 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively.
Mark Alfafara led the ousted PLDT with 28 points while Ron Jay Galang added 17.
