It could be a charm for Petron as it entered the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Finals for the third straight time after dispensing Cignal, 25-20, 26-24, 20-25, 25-13, Thursday at San Juan Arena.

What could have been a game-extending play for the HD Spikers proved fatal as their final play went erroneous, sending the Blaze Spikers to a finals matchup against Foton.

Petron used a 12-3 run to build the momentum in the fourth set with Rachel Anne Daquis capping it off with an emphatic block on Cherry May Vivas.

Blaze Spikers head coach George Pascua said the unexpected finals matchup against Foton is the capper to a conference full of surprises.

“This has gotta be one of the most difficult conferences I’ve ever been on,” Pascua said who is seeking a three-peat, a feat only Philippine Army has achieved. “This is what we’ve been working for. We want that Grand Slam.”

Erica Adachi gave Petron the 24-13 match point with a simple toss that fooled the HD Spikers’ defense.

Rupia Inck led Petron with 20 points while Daquis and Dindin Santiago-Manabat added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Amanda Anderson led Cignal, which saw its five-game winning streak come to an end, with 20 points while Ariel Usher added 18.

The best-of-three PSL finals begin on November 26.
