Sheamus waited and struck at the right time, cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase on Roman Reigns to come away as the new WWE world heavyweight champion Monday (Manila time) at Survivor Series in Atlanta.
The Irish-born superstar crashed the party after Reigns won his first WWE Title after a back-and-forth battle with close ally Dean Ambrose in the Finals of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament.
Reigns hit Ambrose with a spear to win the belt, and also speared WWE chief operating officer Triple H when he came out to congratulate him during his post-match celebration.
That was when Sheamus emerged and hit Reigns with a Brogue kick, stealing the strap in front of a shocked crowd.
This was his fourth time to hold the company’s top prize, but only his first since 2012.
Reigns and Ambrose competed earlier in the night, with Reigns trumping United States Champion Alberto Del Rio and Ambrose going over Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens in their respective semifinals matchup to advance to the tournament’s pinnacle.
In the night’s other main event, The Undertaker commemorated his 25th year in the company with a victory as he and Kane, collectively known as the Brothers of Destruction, turned back Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper.
Despite an interference from Wyatt Family members Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman, the veteran duo still found a way to come out on top, with “The Deadman” planting Harper with a Tombstone piledriver to grab the pinfall win.
