Their head coach may have shed the red-and-blue for the white-and-green but the Letran hopefuls still have that burning spirit within them.
Former Knight Freddie Webb, who rallied Letran students on Friday in a victory party for the NCAA champions, made sure to lift the spirits of the Knights fans despite the departure of erstwhile head coach Aldin Ayo.
“It does not take a good coach to win a championship,” Webb said during the victory party at Letran. “It takes a bunch of good guys [players] to take the championship.”
Ayo, who led Letran to the NCAA Season 91 Seniors Basketball title, has been named the new coach of De La Salle University replacing Juno Sauler.
A member of the 1960 championship team, Webb said the 2015 guys are “almost identical” with his team who didn’t even think would reach the round of four.
“They took us for granted, they said [this team] will not make the round of four,” Webb said. “This team brought us to the Final Four, to the top two, and to the championship.”
“I don’t believe in luck but I believe in feeling blessed.”
