THE BACKCOURT duo of Jeff Viernes and James Martinez waxed hot early to fuel Jumbo Plastic’s 100-73 crushing of Foton Thursday night even as Kama Motors prevailed over Cagayan Valley, 91-85, in the PCBL Founders Cup at JCSGO Gym in Quezon City.
Viernes sizzled for 27 points and Martinez added 24 for the Giants, who secured a twice to beat bonus in the quarterfinal round.
The Giants broke out of the gates hard, unloading 11 straight points to zoom to a 27-8 advantage on a triple by Martinez. The Toplander never recovered from there.
Rudy Lingganay and Roider Cabrera each scattered 20 points as Kama forged a playoff for the No. 4 spot that also carries a twice-to-beat incentive. Kama ended the elimination round with an identical 5-5 win-loss record with Euro Med whom it will play on Tuesday.
