PBA: San Miguel extends win streak to 4 at expense of struggling Star
As its MVP duo continued to dominate, San Miguel continued its relentless run.
Junemar Fajardo and Arwind Santos looked like men among boys at Mall of Asia Arena as San Miguel drowned Star 101-90 to extend its winning streak to four games in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup Saturday.
Article continues after this advertisementFajardo topbilled the Beermen with his usual helpings of numbers, putting up 27 points and 16 boards while Santos had 22 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria said he plans on riding the surge of the Kraken and Spiderman towards the rest of the Philippine Cup.
“We’ve been successful with that tandem, they really complement each other,” Austria said as tied Alaska for the first seed with 6-1 records. “Arwind plays at the top of the key leaving the paint open for Junemar.”
Article continues after this advertisementWith a slim 77-73 lead midway through the fourth, Santos spun his web for a 14-5 run capping it off with an awkwardly shot three-pointer to put the Beermen up 91-78 with 3:31 left.
Fajardo also showed his trickery with a step-back jumper near the baseline giving San Miguel a 95-82 lead with 1:31 remaining.
Alex Cabagnot filled the stat sheet for the Beermen with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists while Marcio Lassiter added 10 points.
James Yap led the 2-6 Hotshots with 22 points as they dropped their fourth consecutive loss.
