Former PBA commissioner Chito Salud on Tuesday resigned as president and CEO of the league.
Salud, himself, confirmed an earlier report regarding his sudden resignation in a statement.
“I have formally and respectfully signified my intention to step down as President/CEO of the PBA effective at the end of December 2015,” Salud said.
Salud served as commissioner in 2010 before stepping down at the end of last season with Chito Narvasa taking over last August.
“The organizational structure of PBA as we have envisaged is already in place. The handover to the new Commissioner has been smoothly executed. And the Board under Chairmsn Non’s leadership continues to be as it is — a source of strength, stability and continuity as the PBA charts its way forward.
“It is for these reasons that I believe the time is right for me to move on, confident as I am that I have already made my modest contributions to the critical transition into this current PBA season,” the statement read.
Salud, 53, was then named as the first PBA president and CEO shortly after giving up his role as commissioner.
Under Salud’s tenure as commissioner, the league set the attendance record at 52,612 last year.
The statement, however, did not say who will assume the position Salud is set to vacate.
