FOR THE second time this year, Chito Salud is stepping down, this time as president and CEO of the Philippine Basketball Association, effective at the end of the year.
Saying this is the right time for him “to move on,” Salud tendered his resignation to the league’s board, effective Dec. 31, which will vacate the positions created for him last August when Chito Narvasa was named commissioner.
“The organizational structure of [the] PBA as we envisaged is already in place,” Salud said in a statement sent by text to reporters. “The handover to the new commissioner (Narvasa) has been smoothly executed.
“And the board under chair (Robert) Non’s leadership continues to be as it is—a source of strength, stability and continuity as the PBA charts its way forward.
“It is for these reasons that I believe the time is right for me to move on, confident as I am that I have already made my modest contributions to the critical transition into this current PBA season.”
The league board appointed Salud to the two new positions after announcing in February that he was stepping down as commissioner.
Salud is the son of the late former commissioner Rodrigo Salud, who was at the helm when the league enjoyed some of its best years.
Incidentally, it was also under the tandem of Non as chair and Salud three years ago when the PBA established its biggest rake at the tills, amounting to about P240 million for the season.
