San Beda shines as routs mark NC football tilt

DEFENDING champion San Beda sustained its fiery form with a 17-0 rout of Mapua yesterday for its second straight victory in the NCAA mens football tournament at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The emphatic victory was a fitting follow up to the 11-0 crushing of Emilio Aguinaldo College on opening-day last Tuesday for the Red Booters who are seeking a sixth straight title.

Arellano also scored its second win at the expense of EAC, 7-0, while St. Benilde opened its campaign with a 7-0 whipping of Perpetual Help.

Over at Filoil Flying V Arena, Perpetual Help and St. Benilde vaulted to a three-way tie at the top in men’s volleyball following convincing victories yesterday.

With Allan Jay Sala-an on the firing end, the Altas walloped the Mapua Cardinals, 25-13, 25-22, 25-19, while the Blazers crushed the Letran Knights, 25-23, 25-23, 25-17, to join the EAC Generals at top spot with 2-0 records.

Sala-An finished 12 hits for the Altas who opened their campaign with a straight set demolition of the San Sebastian Stags last Tuesday.

Johnvic de Guzman came away with 17 points, including 16 on kills, as the Blazers who lost to the Generals in the finals last year sustained their strong start.
