PH cops 3 bronze medals in day 1 of SEA youth swimming tilt
The Philippines bagged three bronze medals at the start of the 39th SEA Age Group Swimming Championship in Danang, Vietnam, Saturday.
Seth Isaak Martin kicked off the Filipino tankers’ bid by finishing third in the 100m backstroke for under-13 boys.
Martin clocked 1:05.49 behind gold medalist Wiarawan Patu of Indonesia (1:01.81) and Vietnam’s Tai Tran Tri (1:04.09).
Article continues after this advertisementRafael Barreto added another bronze later in the 100 butterfly for the 29-man squad backed by the PSC, Nestlé and Philippine Airlines.
Barreto, a 15-year-old butterfly specialist from Ateneo de Manila, submitted a personal best 58.37 after Lee Donovan of Singapore (57.49) and Azel Zelmi of Indonesia (58.17) checked in for the gold and silver.
Capping the triple-bronze finish of the country for the day was the quartet of Miguel Karlo Barlisan, Marco Austriaco, Andrea Ann Tiffany Ngui and Jules Katherine Ong in the 4x100m freestyle mixed relay. June Navarro
