It was a weekend of heartache for Aby Maraño as her two teams in two different leagues experienced the very definition of almost champions.
On Saturday, her Petron Blaze Spikers got caught in a three-set whirlwind at the hands of the Foton Tornadoes in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Finals.
Sunday wasn’t any better for Maraño when her Philippine Army lost in four sets to PLDT Home Ultera in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Reinforced Conference Finals.
“I was just overwhelmed this happened. Both of my teams were in the finals, one team [Army] was unbeaten in the eliminations, but come championship we were beaten twice,” Maraño said. “I just think the championships are not for my teams. God has better plans for us, for me.”
“I have to cheer up, but it’s just too painful. I have two teams, I give it all every single training, I train twice everyday and that was the result. It’s just painful.”
But despite having a forgetful weekend, Maraño still managed to have a positive outlook.
“This is the Christmas season. There’s more to life than volleyball right. It’s our season to share and give love to our families,” Maraño said. “For the past months, I’ve been sacrificing my time for my family because I was focused on volleyball. This time I’m going to put all my attention to them.”
