Bulldogs, Bombers set up Champs League KO dogfight

National University and Jose Rizal University took turns in routing PATTS College of Aeronautics, setting up a knockout match in the Luzon-Metro Manila Qualifying Games Saturday of the National Collegiate Championship.

Right after the Heavy Bombers plastered the Sea Horses, 90-63, the Bulldogs crushed PATTS by 48 points yesterday to arrange the knockout tussle in Group B at 4 p.m. at Faith Gym in Tanauan City in Batangas.

Mapua and St. Clare tangle in the 2 p.m. opener, in a game that no longer has bearing after both teams were defeated by Technological Institute of the Philippines in Group A.

The TIP Engineers dispute one of the two Luzon-Metro Manila slots in the Elite Eight with Lyceum Northwestern University tomorrow.

The winner between the Bulldogs and the Bombers will next clash with Olivarez College for the last Elite Eight seat.

Already seeded in the Elite Eight are UAAP champion FEU, NCAA champion Letran, UAAP runner-up UST, NCAA runner-up San Beda and Cesafi champion University of San Carlos.

Philippine Collegiate Champions League chair Rey Gamboa announced at a press conference yesterday that the Elite Eight games will be a knockout stepladder format with UAAP champion Far Eastern Universityand NCAA titlist Letran waiting for the survivors in the semifinals.

The Tamaraws and the Knights received P100,000 each from the PCCL after topping their respective leagues.
