Kiefer Ravena and Jeron Teng delighted the crowd at the 2015 FIBA 3×3 All-Stars in Gharafa, Doha in Qatar on Friday (Saturday Manila time), leading the Philippines to a 18-11 victory over the host nation’s under-18 3×3 squad.
Acting as guest ambassadors at the one-day spectacle, the collegiate superstars, who were backstopped by Nigerians Ola Adeogun and Bright Akhuetie, made sure to make it an exhibition game to remember for the predominantly Filipino crowd.
The Philippine team jumped to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back, punctuating the victory with a rim-rattling dunk from Akhuetie to end the 10-minute affair.
Ravena and Teng also took over the official FIBA 3×3 Twitter account throughout the event, taking the netizens behind the scenes before the festivities got started.
The two-time UAAP MVP also served as a judge in the 3×3 All-Star Dunk Contest, won by Porter Maberry and Justin Darlington of Team Americas. Boney Watson triumphed in the QBF Shootout Contest.
Reigning World Tour champs Novi Sad Al Wahda of UAE, meanwhile, continued to collect hardwares in the 3-on-3 division, this time outlasting Saskatoon of Canada, 21-14, in the Finals the All-Stars behind the efforts of world number one Dusan Bulut.
Host team Doha, Ljubljana, Tokyo, and Montreal Uqam also joined the six-team, one-day tournament.
A day prior, Terrence Romeo of Manila West was named as the 2015 FIBA 3×3 Most Spectacular Player in this year’s 3×3 Awards.
Aside from Romeo, Bulut (No. 1 Men’s 3×3 Player), Patricia Vicente of Hungary (No. 1 Women’s 3×3 Player), Nedim Muslic of Qatar (No. 1 in U-18 Men’s), and Nina Aho of Hungary (No.1 in U-18 Women’s) were all recognized in the awarding ceremony, capping off an eventful year for 3-on-3 basketball.
