Suarez, Nocos log Naga triumphs
Top seed Justin Suarez of PTA Manila hacked out a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 victory over unranked Nilo Ledama in the boys’ 16-and-under finals of the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala regional age group tennis at Naga City Tennis Club in Cebu last Tuesday.
Tiffany Claire Nocos of Lapu-Lapu City also impressed with victories in the 10-unisex and girls’ 12-U championship.
Nocos thwarted No. 2 Alain Ocat, 3-5, 5-4(3), 12-10, the 10-unisex class and repulsed second seed Lyra Mae Repollo, 6-1, 3-6, 10-7, in the 12-U finals of the Technifibre-backed event.
Local ace Zethley Alferez took the girls’ 18-U title with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over top seed Kristin Salimbangon, while Elizabeth Abarquez, another Cebuano, foiled Alferez’s two-title bid by taking the 16-U plum with a 6-1, 6-3 shocker.
