AVC lauds PH volleyball

BANGKOK—The Asian Volleyball Confederation has lauded Philippine volleyball officials for the steady rise of the sport in the country.

Shanrit Wongprasert, secretary general of the AVC, Thursday said the regional body has been monitoring the sport’s progress since the unified Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas was established early this year.

“Yes we are very happy. Of course, we are following the situation (in the LVPI),” he said at the close of the first-ever AVC press seminar participated here by 13 countries.

Wongprasert also noted the huge following of club and collegiate leagues including the Philippine Superliga of Ramon Suzara, who is also AVC chair of marketing and development.

This year, the Philippines hosted an AVC event, the U23 women’s championships and took part in Asian men’s and women’s club tilts as well as the Southeast Asian Games.
