Treat Huey commits to Davis Cup stint for PH

Treat Huey has thrown his commitment to banner the Philippine Davis Cup next year.
The 30-year-old main man of the national team said he looks forward to lead the the Philippines as it bids to move out of the Asia Oceania Group 2 where it has competed for the past five years.
The country battles with Kuwait in the first round slated March 4 to 6 here in the Philippines. The last time they met was in 2007, when the Filipinos swept the Kuwaitis, 5-0.
If successful, the Philippines will square off with either Chinese Taipei or Malaysia who will tangle in the first round in Taiwan.
Vietnam and Indonesia lock horns in another bracket while Thailand and Sri Lanka clash in the fourth bracket of the group.
The country marched to the Group 2 semifinals with a 5-0 domination of Sri Lanka but suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Taiwanese last year.
Huey recently saw action in the International Premier Tennis League, where he served as player-coach for the local franchise Philippine Mavericks.
The US-born Huey won three ITF doubles titles in 2015 but will team up with another partner next year, Belarussian star Max Mirnyi, starting with a tournament in New Zealand and the Australian Open.
Huey has been leading the country in Davis Cup since 2009 and helped push it to Group 1 in 2010 and 2011 in tandem with Cecil Mamiit.
Huey is now ranked 33rd in the world in doubles from as high as 20th in 2014.
