NORWICH, England — English Premier League side Norwich has appointed former Labor cabinet minister Ed Balls as its chairman.
The club said that Balls will take up his new role immediately and attend Norwich’s home Premier League match against Aston Villa on Monday (Tuesday Manila time). The Canaries are currently one place above the relegation zone.
The 48-year-old Balls is a lifelong Norwich fan.
A former education minister, Balls was elected a Labor MP in 2005 and served for 10 years in different roles, including as the party’s main finance spokesman. He was defeated by 422 votes in May’s general election.
He is currently a senior fellow at Harvard University and a visiting professor at King’s College, London.
