Upstarts Globalport Batang Pier upended the crowd darlings Barangay Ginebra, 84-83, but it was also a game marred with a controversial non-call in the final seconds.

Globalport’s Stanley Pringle found himself in a trap with around six seconds remaining, and just before he found himself illegally crossing the halfcourt line the sophomore passed it to Keith Jensen to seal the victory.

An alleged non-call, a five-second ball-hogging violation, raised controversy as the Batang Pier escaped en route to their first

Pringle, though, believes the that referees made the right call in that crucial stretch.

“The referees reviewed, I think they made the right choice,” Pringle said Sunday. “Sometimes basketball comes down to a split [second] decision, sometimes it can go either way and we can’t blame them for making the right choice.”

Pringle said he felt a few hacks on his arm as he had to shake off the trap of Ginebra guard Sol Mercado and big man Greg Slaughter.
