PBA: Dynamic Gilas rookies Abueva, Romeo face off in semis
Once Gilas rookies, Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo now find themselves at odds with each other as Alaska squares off against GlobalPort in one of the semifinal pairings in the 2016 Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup.
Both of the energetic stars admit that they both benefited from playing along side each other in the national team and they were able to carry it over to the PBA season.
Article continues after this advertisement“When we were in Gilas, we had a big impact on each other. Our confidence came out that’s why our performance ended up that way,” said the energetic Aces forward in Filipino.”
The super scorer of GlobalPort, meanwhile, said, “Calvin and I shared a great bond. We will remain friends.”
But come January 4, the battle lines will be drawn as the Aces clash against the Batang Pier with the spotlight mainly on the two.
Article continues after this advertisementRomeo knows it’s going to be a dogfight given then both sides are hungry for the victory.
“I know they want to win and they want to win too. It’s going to be a battle in the basketball court. I know we’ll do our best for the team to win,” said Romeo.
Abueva, meanwhile, made it clear that it would be all business once that whistle is blown.
“We’ll probably greet each other but this is different business. This semis, we really have to show how far we can go,” he said.
Romeo, who will make his semifinal debut, agrees, and said that their friendship will be placed on the side with a Finals slot hanging in the balance.
“For me, whatever happens, I’m excited. When I face him, I’ll just do my job,” he said.
