Red Lions turn back Pirates, move up to 4th
SAN BEDA downed Lyceum, 21-25, 27-25, 25-13, 25-18, yesterday to inch closer to the Final Four in the men’s division of the 91st NCAA volleyball tournament at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Mark Christian Enciso and skipper Alfie Mascariñas scored 21 and 18 points, respectively, to power the Red Lions to their fifth win in eight matches, good for fourth spot.
Mascariñas scored all his hits on kills while Enciso produced 17 spikes, two blocks and two service aces.
Article continues after this advertisementThe Pirates, who were led by Joeward Presnede’s 15, fell out of the Final Four race after taking their fifth loss in eight games.
In women’s play, San Beda dragged Lyceum further out of the magic four with a pulsating 21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 15-12 win.
It was the Lionesses’ third win in eight outings while the Lady Pirates fell to their fourth loss in eight, a game off No. 4 Perpetual Help.
