NU sweeps Ateneo; UST, La Salle trip UAAP foes

National University’s top duo of John Lloyd Clemente and Justine Baltazar came out explosive yet again as the Bullpups rolled past Ateneo, 81-69, to stay unbeaten in eight games in the UAAP juniors basketball tournament Saturday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Clemente posted 21 points and 13 rebounds and Baltazar similarly had a huge outing of 15 points and 20 boards to power the Bullpups to an elimination sweep of the defending champion Blue Eaglets.

La Salle Zobel’s Aljun Melecio also erupted for 41 points and 10 rebounds to lead the  Junior Archers to a 78-58 blasting of Far Eastern University.

Melecio, the league’s leading scorer who averaged 23.1 points in the first round, just finished a point shy of his season-high record.

The Junior Archers claimed solo second with a 6-2 record, while the Eaglets slipped to a share of third with Adamson at 5-3.

The Baby Falcons triumphed over University of the Philippines, 66-61, with Jayson Celis and Jose Antiporda teaming up for 21 points.

University of Santo Tomas also kicked off the second round with a win as the Tiger Cubs slipped past University of the East, 95-94. Jasmine W. Payo
