Second-seeded University of Perpetual Help had to use the fifth set to advance to the Finals of the NCAA Men’s Volleyball Tournament as it one-upped College of St. Benilde, 33-31, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9, Friday at San Juan Arena.
With the win, the Altas set up a Finals matchup against first-seeded Emilio Aguinaldo College, who earlier dispatched San Beda also in five sets.
Perpetual Help’s twice-to-beat advantage was put to test when the Blazers lit up in the third and fourth sets but, as fate would have it, the championship series would be against the top two teams of the league.
Rey Taneo Jr. had a team-high 21 points for the Altas who also got solid support from Bonjomat Castel and Relan Taneo who each added 13 points.
John Vic De Guzman had a game-high 28 points for the Blazers while Racmade Etrone and Ron Jordan added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
