St. Benilde overcomes San Sebastian anew, nears 1st NCAA volley crown
College of St. Benilde took advantage of San Sebastian College’s one-woman attack for a 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16 win that puts them within a victory of the NCAA Season 78 women’s volleyball crown Friday.
The Lady Blazers’ win wipes out the Lady Stags’ thrice-to-beat advantage after dealing them their first defeat this season in Game one of the Finals.
Article continues after this advertisementNot only did CSB exploit the Lady Stags’ Gretchel Soltones-centered offense, it also got 39 points off San Sebastian’s errors.
Soltones was the high-point woman for the Lady Stags with 27 points but got little offensive support from her teammates.
Dangie Encarnacion was the next leading scorer for the Lady Stags with six points.
Article continues after this advertisementCSB, however, went for a three-pronged attack with Janine Navarro, Jeanette Panaga, and Ranya Muss each tallying 16 points.
Game 3 is on Tuesday at San Juan Arena with CSB getting a crack at its first ever women’s volleyball crown.
