Sustaining its streak of surprises, St. Benilde moved within a win of a monumental championship upset as the Lady Blazers stunned San Sebastian anew, 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, in Game 2 of the NCAA women’s volleyball Finals Friday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Janine Navarro, Jeanette Panaga and Ranya Musa fired 16 points each to power the Lady Blazers, who dealt the once invincible Lady Stags back-to-back losses.
“It’s about time that we make history,” said St. Benilde coach Macky Cariño.
The Lady Blazers try to overcome the thrice-to-beat advantage of the Lady Stags—who earned the incentive after completing a 16-0 sweep of the eliminations—in Game 3 on Tuesday.
In men’s action, Perpetual Help forged a winner-take-all for the crown as the Altas downed Emilio Aguinaldo, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19, in Game 2.
Rey Taneo Jr. and Ranidean Philipe Abcede combined for 30 points for the Altas, who won over the defending champion Generals for the first time this season.
The win came after their high school counterparts ruled the juniors division as Perpetual swept EAC, 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11, to bag its second straight title.
