Compton: Pressure is on San Miguel to win Game 7

Despite blowing a 3-0 series lead in the 2016 Smart Bro PBA Philippine Cup Finals, Alaska head coach Alex Compton still believes the pressure is on San Miguel Beer to complete the unbelievable comeback.

“I think the pressure is on them. I don’t know how you guys see it, but that team was expected to win a Grand Slam, and now, they have to step up in Game 7,” said Compton.

After its 100-89 Game 6 triumph on Friday, San Miguel became the first team in PBA history to force a do-or-die affair after falling from a 0-3 hole.

Compton offered no excuses with the way the Aces dropped the last three games.

“We got beat fair and square,” he said. “It’s safe to say June Mar (Fajardo) was a factor. I think Marcio (Lassiter) was awesome today. I’ve been on the same team as Marcio in Powerade and I’ve seen him be awesome against us. They clearly deserved the win.”

But it’s still too early to rewrite the history books, and Alaska, after wasting its third straight chance to win its first Philippine Cup title since 2000, sure is motivated to close out the series for one final time on Wednesday night at Mall of Asia Arena for Game 7.

“I actually think that we’re gonna have some fun next Wednesday, but that’s just me,” said Compton. “At least, hindi rin lugi PBA fans (PBA fans will get their money’s worth). It’s Game 7 all over again.”
