PCCL honors co-champs San Beda, FEU
The tournament may have come to an unusual end, but the winners of the 2015 National Collegiate Championship were honored just the same in a recognition rite dubbed as “A Toast” recently at ELJ Building in ABS-CBN.
Far Eastern University and San Beda, who emerged co-champions last December, led the awardees in the event that gathered varsity teams nationwide.
“For the first time in 13 editions of the games, we have two champions,” Rey Gamboa, chair of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL), said of the tournament that was cut short due to a typhoon.
The Red Lions bagged the NCC crown for the second straight year, while the UAAP champion Tamaraws won their third since winning back-to-back starting in 2004.
NCAA king Letran and Cebu’s University of San Carlos also shared the runner-up honors, while Lyceum Northwestern University (North-Central Luzon regional champion), Olivarez College (South Luzon-Bicol regional champion) and Technological Institute of the Philippines (NCR Elite Eight qualifier) also received commendation for their breakthrough performances.
Individuals recognized for their contribution to the league include technical director Romy Guevarra and school officials Mark Molina of FEU, Jose Rizal U’s Efren Jose Supan and Dr. Saturnino G. Belen, president of First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities.
