The UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament finally came off wraps on Sunday before a packed crowd at San Juan Arena after an offseason that nearly lasted a year.

In the opening game, University of the Philippines paraded its prized recruits in Diana Carlos, Justine Dorog and Maria Molde in a straight-sets victory over University of the East. The three rookies combined for 23 points while the Lady Maroons’ mainstays of Nicole Tiamzon and Kathy Bersola also had significant contributions.

The main game, featuring defending champion Ateneo and National University also didn’t last that long with the Lady Eagles cruising in three sets behind their superstar spiker Alyssa Valdez.
